One of the things I loved about this book and also about Lise is that she involved herself in the environment/local and drags you along to the places she describes. Her environmental descriptions are so well done I felt I was in the car looking out the window as I was reading the book. She tends to do the same thing with her character development. Her character development is so strong that you wish you were friends with either of the women as they are kind, can-do-women, with warm hearts and a loving spirit. This can be a standalone novel however Northhern Lights gives great background and you get an opportunity to watch the two women fall deeply for each other but wonder how they’re ever going to resolve the geographical distance between them and develop a life together.Hannah Is from London and is very much a city girl. She longs to belong, as she was given up in birth and placed for adoption and after two years ended up spending her life in child custody. While she has some good friends she just wants to belong to someone special and develop a family of her own. She also wondered who her mother was and why she was ever placed for adoption. Kristine on the other hand is from Louisiana and very much a country girl who has a close family even they are a bit dysfunctional and homophobic. She is good at her steady yet predictable job and longs for a change just not sure how to go about getting one. She’s also sad because the promise of a visit from Hannah to Louisiana never happened. Through a wild twist of events Hannah does find her self in Louisiana and takes a chance to go meet up with Kristine. Quickly their attraction to one another continues to exist but again they are left to work out the challenges of a long distance relationship. Will they be able to work it out?This book is so well written as is the case with all of Gold’s books. If you read any of her books you will soon be hooked on her style of her writing beautifully descriptions of characters and they live or visit. That absolutely no one else has bothered to point out because they don’t realize it’s there. Hannah is an American citizen because her father is an American and her parents got married. Of course that fact would eliminate half the story line if not a bit more but still it drives me nuts when authors don’t actually do their research...I love the characters as I said in the other review on the first book and yes the problems I pointed out there are still to be found here but still it’s an enjoyable read. The author understands small town living very well. I do very much enjoy the way the two lovers are back together and I’m very much enjoying the way they are together and overall the story flows well but the author just needs to do a bit more research next time!
