Perhaps no two adults differ as much as Logan and Paige. Paige, a recently retired model, is quick witted, effusive, and unsettled. Logan, a veteran player for the Washington Wolves football team, is a few years from retirement himself. Withdrawn but far from timid, Logan shies away from the limelight. As the legal guardian to four (!) younger sisters from his father's second marriage, Logan doesn't take his responsibilities lightly. There is nothing he wouldn't do to keep custody of his siblings, including proposing to a marriage of convenience to Paige. Paige has her own reasons for accepting Logan's proposal, and the two quickly find themselves far more emotionally attached than they'd anticipated....What I absolutely loved about this novel were Logan's sisters. His love for them is clear and forthright, and we see Paige develop a unique and special bond with them. It was so endearing; Logan and Paige's respective relationships with these four girls is the true focal point of the narrative. By contrast, the relationship between Logan and Paige almost seemed incidental. Their relationship was a slow burn, a very angst-filled "will they? won't they." There was tons and tons of resistance and denial. However, as soon as Logan and Paige's chemistry ignited, it was extinguished. They finally got together, but then a misunderstanding tore them apart. By the time they reconciled, the novel ended.Even though I personally would have appreciated more romance/more development of Logan and Paige's relationship, I would be remiss to say that 'The Marriage Effect' isn't a love story. It's a love story about family, the unconventional families borne of love and choice. I was happy to see Logan, Paige, and the girls fall so deeply and completely for each other. I could not stop smiling like a loon while reading this book! By the time I was done my cheeks hurt from smiling so much and I finished feeling light and happy. This book was everything you want in a fake marriage story - two opposites thrown together unexpectedly yet end up fitting perfectly together like they were meant to be. I fell absolutely in love with Paige and Logan - their chemistry and banter was spot on and left me begging for more. Logan with his grumpy demeanor and Paige with her ever present positive and sassy attitude - the push and pull was perfect. With Logan as the sole guardian of his four younger sisters they add in some hilarious antics and several moments that had me crying. Paige and Logan definitely heat up the book with the sexual tension and desire slowly building throughout the story until they finally explode. I would highly recommend this book- one of my favorites this year! 5+ Stars for me!
