I first discovered Jacki James when I read 45 and Holding and was hooked. Her Breaking the Rules series, including the terrific crossover book Age Rules with Michelle Frost, and her Men of River Gorge series are among my favorite books. She has a way of grabbing you and making you love her characters. This book was no exception. This was the first book I read of Hart Security, and I've already bought the previous book, Saving the Senator's Son, because I love all the characters. In this book, Ash and Ezra were wonderful individually and as a couple and I loved Manny and the twins. I enjoyed watching Ash overcome his fear from the attack in the first book and manage his life standing on his own two feet. I was also glad of the fact that, while Ash and Ezra were lovers, it was realistically portrayed and not on every page. I would have liked a little more of an ending, though, especially the "linner" with the Hart family.All of that said, and this has nothing to do with the author's writing but strictly the editing, the very first word in chapter 1 was wrong. I can understand missed errors sometimes buried within a book, but to have the first word be wrong is embarrassing. Ash was sitting in his house and started hearing noises outside and that first word was "creek". A creek is a small body of water. The word should have been "creak" which means "a harsh, shrill, grating or squeaking sound", etc., more appropriate in the circumstances. I know, I know, this is petty, but having been a legal secretary for years, I'm picky and this should have been easily caught. I still loved the book. Ash has been cast aside because he was gay. He has a best friend that close like a brother. His BFF marries and his family grows. Tragic events force Ash to be on his toes. Local Vet and supporter of a Shelter is Dr. Eras is a divorce gay single dad of twins that are now 5 years old. Both find juggling the single life challenging until they met each other.
