Ebook About
Navy Nurse Avery Nelson never dreamed she’d be taken hostage during her deployment in Afghanistan. She’s assisting local women with healthcare, not fighting in a war. But digging her way out of her would-be grave turns out to be the battle of her life. She’s not the type to simply lay down and die, or sit around crying, waiting for someone to save her…though Avery can’t deny it’s a massive relief when the very SEAL she’s been flirting with for months comes to her rescue.Cole “Rex” Kingston has saved his fair share of women over his time as a SEAL, but no mission has ever seemed as important as the one to find Avery Nelson. Digging the woman out of the rubble of a mountainside in Afghanistan hammers home to them both just how short life is, and they waste no time acting on their attraction, getting closer as Cole helps Avery deal with the aftermath of her ordeal. But someone isn’t happy that Avery didn’t die in the mountains…and they’ll do anything to make sure she doesn’t live long enough to talk about what she might’ve heard and seen while deployed.** Securing Avery is the 5th book in the SEAL of Protection: Legacy Series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings.

Book Securing Avery (SEAL of Protection: Legacy Book 5) Review :

Amazing is all I can say, but the story is more then amazing, and the characters are all one could want. This story left me high, speechless and at the edge of my seat. It was better then any action movie i ever saw, to see Rex and his Team mates go out and rescue Avery was like wow. Every page, forget every-page, every sentence had me breathless, I could not wait till the next turn to see what would happen, and I was not disappointed at all.Avery is everything I think a woman would want to be, strong, courageous and self less, even after all she went through she still put others ahead of her self, and trust me this PTSD was enough to make me feel like I was drowning in her pain, and yet even then she remained selfless. And Rex aka Cole, jeez I need one like him or his team mates, to me anyway, he embodies all that is to me a Man.The story was great, it kept me so involved that I forgot the time, and lost my self in a great story, Thank you Susan for a great story and a great adventure, it was better then a movie.
So, I was intrigued by the premise of this book from the get-go and have been (impatiently) awaiting its release for months now. I loved the descriptions of Avery and Cole, and thought the initial setup was a good one. The fact that the two of them had been flirting with each other for months prior to Avery's deployment was the primary saving grace for this story. Why? Because throughout the whole entire thing, Avery is suffering from PTSD, and not in a remote kind of way (in other words, over something that had happened years ago). Not that distance necessarily makes this issue any better (depends on the person), but the fact that she was in the midst of her ordeal at the start of the story and Cole and his team were the ones who rescued her kind of casts an uncomfortable spell over their relationship, IMO. If they hadn't known each other on a superficial level before Cole rescued her, their relationship wouldn't have been believable at all. It would have just seemed like they fell for each other because of the intensity of the rescue thing. In some ways, it kind of smacked of that, anyway.Their relationship was EXTREMELY slow to develop and didn't fully develop (if you catch my meaning) until the end of the book. That's not a favorite plot device of mine when reading romantic fiction. So, while they were "together" in some sort of platonic/yet not quite platonic relationship almost from the beginning, there really wasn't anything there except a lot of angst and misunderstandings between the two of them. The "heat" between our two main characters was totally missing because of this lack of taking things to the next level (until the end).I don't mind strong women, and much prefer them to sniveling whiners, but I thought that Avery came across as a bit too strong in some cases. And Cole wasn't quite pushy enough (in a take-charge, alpha male good kind of way), so there were just several aspects of this story that seemed off to me.I love when the h is a redhead (I think redheads are generally underrepresented in romantic fiction), and Avery was definitely a stubborn redhead. :-) In the epilogue, we got a preview of the next book in the series. This one will be Phantom's story and the h is another redhead (awesome). Poor Kalee has been through the wringer, though, so she's going to be another psychological mess. I would love to see some of these SEAL stories where the h isn't some traumatized person. Women who have been raped don't just magically recover from these experiences, so in my opinion, it's difficult for writers to create any semblance of a believable romantic story centering around a woman who has recently been raped (especially if she has been raped repeatedly by multiple men). Someone who has been through that might never want to be touched by a man again in her life, and certainly wouldn't want it within weeks or even months after her ordeal. It's just a tough issue that doesn't appeal to me in romantic stories. All in all, this one was just okay to me. And where I was also looking forward to reading the next book in the series (Phantom's story), after reading the epilogue in this one that touched on the horrors that Kalee is going through, my enthusiasm for that one has already waned. In this story, Avery wasn't raped and she went through a lot of PTSD issues that complicated her relationship with Cole. I can't even imagine how difficult Kalee and Phantom's relationship is going to be since she has been through multiple rapes.
